Finding books on whips and whip cracking can be hard. Here's a list of some.
Whip Cracking Books

- An excellent book for first time crackers, but also includes some great information on performing as well.
Whip Making Books
- Encyclopedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding - Bruce Grant
- ISBN 9780870331619 This book is readily available
- This is not actually a whip making book, but does contain a lot of information on braiding and plaiting that is aplicable to whip making. Just over 500 pages, this is truly an encyclopedia of techniques.
- How to Make Whips - Ron Edwards
- ISBN 9780870035136 This book is readily available
- One of the original definitive books on the subject. It is geared primarily towards making stock whips out of kangaroo hide, but the information on plaiting and whipmaking in general make it an excellent book.
Whip History and Other Subjects
- Whips of the West - David W. Morgan
- ISBN 9870870335891 This book is readily available
- An illustrated history of American whips and whip making. This book includes numerous photos of whip factories and even whip catalogs from the 1800's up to the 1950's.
